Lead Technical Product Manager - Data
We’re building humanoid robots that work in the home - doing the chores, handling the tasks, and giving people their time back. Simple, but it’s not.
To do this right, we have to solve robotics, AI, and manufacturing - at the same time, at scale, in a form factor that has to be safe enough to live with your family. If you’re inspired by this, you’ll thrive here. We’ve been at this since 2014 and we’re at the point where the hard problems are behind us and the hard work is in front of us.
NEO is our flagship - a home robot designed to move, learn, and operate in the real world alongside real people. We’re not demoing it - we’re shipping it. We’re excited to meet you, if this excites you.
If you’ve spent your career working on problems that matter and want to see them actually reach the world - this is that moment. We’re scaling, we’re hiring with intention, and we need people who want to build something that will genuinely change how humans spend their time - safely creating abundance for all.
The World Model Lab builds the learned models of the physical world that let NEO understand its surroundings and act in real homes. Every model we train is capped by the quality of the data behind it - the demonstrations we collect, the annotations we apply, and the real-world evaluations we use to measure progress. This is the team that turns 1X’s data into intelligence, and this role owns the foundation it all stands on.
The mission of this role is to own 1X’s data strategy for the World Model Lab - making sure the data flowing into our world models, the annotations applied to it, and the real-world evaluations that measure progress set the bar in robotics. World models are only as good as their data, which puts this role directly on the critical path: you are the single owner accountable for input quality, and that quality determines how fast NEO learns to operate safely in homes.
This is a builder’s role for a high-execution Lead PM who is ready to grow into owning strategy end to end - someone who ships first, earns the roadmap, and expands their scope as they go.
Raise the quality of data coming in - Drive measurable improvements in the quality and diversity of data feeding world model training across teleoperation, fleet (NEO), and simulation sources.
Raise the quality of annotations - Define the annotation quality bar and build the labeling processes and metrics that make every dataset trustworthy for training.
Raise the quality of real-world evaluations - Own the strategy and pipelines for real-world evals so model performance is measured accurately where it matters: in the home.
Own data acquisition and sourcing - Set the roadmap for where data comes from and prioritize collection to close the gaps that most limit model performance.
Set the data roadmap with research - Translate world model researchers’ needs into a clear, prioritized data plan and drive it to delivery.
Drive execution relentlessly, turning ambiguous research needs into shipped pipelines, processes, and tooling.
Define and operate quality metrics across data, annotation, and evaluation.
Partner deeply with ML researchers and engineers, translating model needs into concrete data requirements.
Reason about ML data, understanding how data quality and distribution shape model performance.
3 - 5 years of product management experience, including leading technical or data products end to end.
Proven track record of shipping data, ML, or infrastructure products in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated ability to define metrics and drive measurable quality improvements.
Experience working directly with ML, research, or engineering teams.
Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience (ideal but not a deal breaker).
Exposure to robotics, world models, or foundation model training.
Familiarity with teleoperation, simulation, or large-scale data collection.
Experience with annotation or labeling operations and data benchmarking.
Appetite to grow from high-execution delivery into owning data strategy end to end.
Team members at 1X who thrive here are builders. They move fast, own their work completely, and treat time like it’s the one thing you can’t get back - because it is. They say what they mean, finish what they start, and hold themselves to a standard before anyone has to ask. We push each other to be better, and we do it with honesty and respect.
